LP Integrity tests cathodic protection on buried propane tanks and issues the documentation that proves it. The reading is the whole product. That makes the person holding the meter the most important part of the company, so we train them properly and we pay attention to who they are.
Trade background helps. Propane experience is not required. What is required is being reliable on a rural route, comfortable on someone’s property, and completely straight about what the meter said.

You take the certification course
Ten short modules and a final assessment, about ninety minutes end to end. It is real content: corrosion, the criterion, the meter, the method, the calendar, evidence discipline, safety, the step-by-step tank check, the app you will actually use, and what to do when a tank fails.
You go on a route
Passing the assessment is what makes you assignable. Until then the schedule will not let anyone put you on a tank, which is deliberate.
- What the work is
- Take four readings in the soil around a buried propane tank against a copper / copper sulfate reference cell, photograph each one, and submit. A stop takes minutes once you know the routine. Routes are clustered by town.
- What passing means
- A reading at or more negative than -0.85 V against that reference cell. More negative is more protected. The app checks it for you and you are expected to know the rule cold.
- You do not need a license to test
- Testing is not gas fitting work. Neither is digging a hole and setting an anode in the ground, in New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont or Massachusetts.
- Some work does need one
- Tank connections, meaning the anode lead and the dielectric pigtail or union at the tank, are licensed work in all four states. If you are not licensed, you do not make them, and the schedule will not send you to make them.
- The phone app works with no signal
- Rural New Hampshire has dead zones. The whole capture completes and saves on the device, then syncs when you have bars. You are never stuck at a tank waiting for a bar.
- The one rule that matters most
- Never invent a reading. Not an estimate, not last year's number, not a value copied from the point next to it. If something cannot be captured, it is recorded as missing and you say why. That rule has no exceptions and it is why the company is called what it is.
One thing we will not say, because it is not true: there is no published fine schedule for an untested buried tank in New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont or Massachusetts. What actually happens is that a supplier can refuse to fill the tank, an insurer can deny a claim, and the liability sits with the owner. If you hear anyone selling this work on fines, they are making it up.
